Juvenile Offenses

Tyler, Texas, Juvenile Crime Lawyer Serving East Texas

If a minor in your family has been charged with a crime, the right criminal defense lawyer can make a difference. I am John J. Eastland, attorney at law. For more than 20 years, I have been standing up to protect the futures of young people charged in juvenile courts throughout Texas. My firm is located in Tyler, Texas, and I primarily serve residents of Smith County, Gregg County and communities throughout East Texas. If your child has committed a crime, you want him or her to be responsible for his or her actions. However, that doesn't have to mean that a promising future should be ruined. A felony or misdemeanor conviction on your child's record could harm his or her ability to get into college or pursue the career of his or her dreams. Children are too young to have the doors of opportunity closed on them. Regardless of any mistakes your child may have made, you seek to protect his or her future in that time of need. If your child is charged with a juvenile crime, get the best possible defense for your child.

As your child's juvenile crime defense lawyer, I will do everything in my power to protect his or her rights and future. Having to report a conviction on a college or job application may harm your child’s chances for success. I am a native of East Texas and have been practicing law here since 1985. I know that prosecutors in East Texas are some of the toughest in the nation, and a trial is a possibility in any juvenile case.

Drugs and alcohol defense ▪ Probation ▪ Shoplifting ▪ School assault

While it is true that getting a charge dismissed is very rare, getting an acquittal in juvenile court is almost always a possibility. In addition, plea bargains, including a plea to a lesser charge, are also a possibility. In cases of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a violation for careless driving is a far better outcome than a conviction for DWI. As further examples, a careless driving offense looks better than a drinking and driving offense. Disorderly conduct looks better than an assault, and a plea to misdemeanor theft or criminal trespass is likely to be far less harmful to a future than felony burglary would be. My criminal law experience makes a difference in juvenile crime cases. If your child has been charged with a juvenile crime, contact me right away to schedule a free consultation. Together, we will seek the best possible result.

While plea bargains are possible for a reduced offense or reduced punishment, or both, the choice of whether to engage a plea bargain or a jury trial will always be yours.
