Misdemeanor DWI in Texas

DWI Defense Lawyer Serving East Texas

If you have been arrested for drunk driving, you may be offered probation in a plea bargaining arrangement. The prosecution may make it sound like this is your best option, but I urge you to consider your options before accepting it.

As an attorney with more than 25 years of experience handling DWI defense cases in East Texas, I know the consequences of accepting probation. It may be more costly than you think.

Contact me today online or by telephone at 903-596-9696 to speak with an experienced Texas criminal defense lawyer about any felony or misdemeanor DWI in Texas.

Should You Accept Probation?

For first-time DWI offenders, probation will last from nine months to two years. During this probation period, you will give up many of the rights you enjoy, and be forced to:

  • Report to a probation officer monthly
  • Pay a probation fee
  • Take classes on alcohol use, life skills, victim impact and other topics
  • Perform community service

Additionally, if you accept probation, your behavior will be scrutinized by law enforcement officials. Your freedom will be limited in regard to using alcohol, going to bars and even choosing who you spend time with. Accepting probation is essentially giving up your freedom without a fight. As a DWI defense lawyer who has handled over 500 criminal trials, I believe in fighting for the rights of my clients, to seek total freedom from probation or a criminal conviction.
